Shore Senior Center chooses 7 directors April 14, 06

The North Shore Senior Center has elected seven members as new directors for three-year terms from 2005 to 2008. New directors elected at its 2006 annual meeting are Sargon Aboona of Skokie, Mehroo K. Bohte of Glencoe, Paul G. Hoffmann of Wilmette, Sharon L. King of Winnetka, Rabbi Harold L. Kudan of Northbrook, George K. Metzger of Northbrook, and Donald Whiteman of Northfield.
Re-elected directors are Corrine Bowman of Winnetka (for a two-year term) and Leigh Wilbur of Northbrook (for a one-year term.)
John Alden of Deerfield is the chairman, and is serving his second term. First Vice Chairman is Millard Grauer of Highland Park. Second Vice Chairman is Pat Karr of Northfield. Vice Chairman and General Counsel is Greg Schroedter of Evanston. Secretary is Joan Berman of Glencoe. Assistant Secretary is John Cruikshank of Northbrook. Treasurer is C. Reed Parker of Glenview. Assistant Treasurer is Molly D'Esposito of Winnetka. Kip Kelley of Glenview is Associate Board Chairman.
The Men's Club President this year is Ron Mantegna of Northbrook. And the OASIS Advisory Chairman this year is Bert Winograd of Lincolnshire.
Alden is a former vice president of personnel and industrial relations for Packaging Corporation of America. Earlier, he was a practicing attorney in Kansas. An active member of the Village Presbyterian Church in Northbrook, he served as a ruling elder and as chairman of the Pastor Nominating Committee. He is also active in youth work and is a volunteer teacher in public schools and at his church. He has been a North Shore Senior Center Board member since 1996.
Aboona was recommended for the board by the Executive Director of Urhai, an organization that serves the Assyrian community. A retired accountant, he was a volunteer for the YMCA in Baghdad. He is currently a volunteer for his church, the Assyrian Church of the East.
Bhote is a member of the Boards of Senior Housing in Glencoe and the Glencoe chapter of the Lyric Opera. Her professional experience was in accounting and finance. She speaks several Indian dialects.
Hoffmann has an extensive career in direct marketing, advertising and strategic planning. He directed development, production and sales of the senior center's 50th anniversary cookbook. He also volunteers for the Executive Service Corps.
King is senior counsel of Sidley Austin LLP. She is currently on the senior center's Ethics Committee and was instrumental in bringing the Legal Assistance Program to senior center clients. She is the Lawyers' Committee for Better Housing Board's vice president, chairwoman of the Board Development Committee, and the Women's Bar Foundation Investment Committee chairwoman.
Kudan is the founding rabbi of Temple Am Shalom. His community organization work includes the Blue Ribbon Panel, Glencoe Human Relations Committee, and the Catholic-Jewish Interfaith Program. He is the Avenue of the Righteous co-founder and on its Board.
Metzger has 40 years as a commercial banker. He has served in various board positions with Jan Addam's Hull House Association and the Central YMCA Community College as well as doing volunteer work in various civic activities.
Whiteman is the former president of the Northfield Board of Trustees. He is a member of the Northfield Village Caucus and the North Shore Amateur Radio Club. He is currently employed by the securities firm, RBC Dain Rauscher, Inc.
Four directors retired. They are Lynda Anderson of Wilmette, Keki Bhote of Glencoe, Edward Grabill of Lake Forest and Marcia Schneider of Glencoe.
The North Shore Senior Center celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. The center, which today serves 23 communities in Chicago's northern suburbs, was founded in 1956 in Winnetka as a not-for-profit organization.
